Practical Cases of Education for Sustainable Development from Suzhou Won International Award

Recently, Suzhou Daily reported the news that RCE Suzhou delegation was invited to the 13th Global RCE Annual Conference and won two awards. RCE Suzhou sent 13 young delegates to the conference, 7 of them from Green Light-Year.

Recently, 13th Global RCE Conference held by the United Nations University was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Ellen Touchstone, Associate Dean for Responsible and Sustainable Business Education at the International Business School Suzhou at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, leading 12 youth students, representing RCE Suzhou, attended the conference and ultimately won two international awards.

 

In 2003, the United Nations University Institute for Advanced Studies in Sustainable Development (UNU-IAS) launched the Education for Sustainable Development Project (ESD). Under the Project, Regional Centres of Expertise (RCEs) on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) with global multi-stakeholder involved has emerged to design and conduct research and develop activities. RCE Suzhou, as one of the Regional Centres of Expertise, is part of the Project’s regional network located in Suzhou. The members of the Council of RCE Suzhou are all experts actively promoting Education for Sustainable Development in Suzhou.

 

 

During the Conference, RCE Suzhou shared with the attending representatives the practical cases of Education for Sustainable Development conducted in Suzhou, including “Insect Protein Replacing Deep Sea Fish as Pet Food” project from Green Light Year, “Sharing Vegetable Garden” from Meisong Community of Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP) and “15 Ways in 15 Weeks 2.0 Carbon Reduction Initiative at IBSS” project. Among them, “Insect Protein Replacing Deep Sea Fish as Pet Food” project from Green Light Year and “15 Ways in 15 Weeks 2.0 Carbon Reduction Initiative at IBSS” project won awards.

It is worth mentioning that the average age of the members of the Youth Delegation of RCE Suzhou attending the conference is 21 years old, among which the youngest delegate, Zhou Xiqiao, is only 15 years old. During the conference, Zhou Xiqiao is responsible for observing and recording the conference. What impressed her the most was the members of the Youth Delegation reviewing and summarizing what they have learned from today’s conference sessions together. During the conference, this group of young and promising delegates showed the new style and infinite potential of Suzhou Youth in the field of Sustainable Development.
