Kefei Chen, a driven and passionate International Relations student from University of Liverpool, is now working as a research analyst at Shanghai Green Light Year. She has a strong academic foundation in international affairs, coupled with a deep understanding of environmental and social issues, particularly as they relate to agriculture and food systems.
Passion for ESG:
Kefei is deeply committed to promoting Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles in various sectors, particularly within the agricultural industry. She believes that integrating ESG considerations into business and policy frameworks is crucial for achieving sustainable development goals. Kefei is well-versed in the importance of corporate sustainability practices, responsible investment strategies, and stakeholder engagement in advancing ESG objectives.
Agricultural Sustainability Advocate:
Kefei’s passion for agricultural sustainability stems from her recognition of the vital role that agriculture plays in global food security and environmental conservation. She is interested in exploring innovative approaches to sustainable agriculture, including regenerative farming practices, agroecology, and precision agriculture. Kefei is enthusiastic about engaging in discussions and initiatives aimed at enhancing the resilience and sustainability of food systems worldwide.
Practical experience:
In June 2023, Kefei participated in the research “2023 Chinese Enterprise Environmental, Social and Governance Performance Research” initiated by Shanghai Green Light Year. As one of the researchers in the Food and Agriculture Group, Kefei conducts research and evaluation on the ESG performance of Chinese food and agricultural companies by collecting corporate annual reports, ESG reports, etc., and ultimately generates ESG performance reports for each food and agricultural company. By comparing the ESG performance of Chinese food and agricultural companies with those of other countries, Kefei gradually realized that there were serious deficiencies in the ESG performance of Chinese companies. She worked with team members to understand and study the World Benchmark Alliance’s expectations for food and agricultural companies and provided suggestions for the performance of Chinese food and agricultural companies in the ESG field. Kefei hopes that the research results of herself and her team members can help the development of Chinese companies.
Future Goals:
Looking ahead, Kefei aspires to leverage her background in international relations and her passion for sustainability to pursue a career that allows her to make a meaningful impact on global food security and environmental sustainability. Whether through policy advocacy, research, or private sector engagement, Kefei is dedicated to driving positive change and promoting a more sustainable future for world food and agricultural development.
